I know there are definite opinions around here about a "burst" finish, but see if you don't think this top burst by Tony Ferguson isn't rather tasteful. ![]() ![]() ![]() It is a zircote body and some kind of spruce top, (I forget exactly what kind but its whatever the client ordered) and it is trimmed with maple and it has a black/bloodwood/black purfling all over that does not show in this pic. |

Now that's a really tasteful burst! (It might even silence a few of the vocal anti-burst crowd here ![]() I really like the spalted/paua rosette and the zircote...yummy |

I'm a fan too. Tony wanted to "antique" one of mine like that but I wouldn't let him. Wish I had now. |

Thanks guys I took a chance on this top. I am hoping the customer will like it as well. He didn't specify an antiqued top but I took artistic license. |

John, Tastefully done! Such a beautiful instrument. Are those slots for carbon fiber rods? So, do you glue the fingerboard down, but try to avoid gluing the rods? Or....? Jeff |

Beautiful and tasteful. I am not a huge burst fan, but that is understated and very nice. Andy |

Thanks some more guys. I am hopeful hearing your response. Jeff, those slots will house two carbonfiber rods with bolts. the rods glue to the underside of the fingerboard, The bolts protrude through the block underneath the top, and are used to hold the fingerboard extension down. |

Very nice, bro! Say, what is the rosette? I mean, other than the pearl? That really is pretty. Oh, yes, the slight 'burst is nice, too. KBW |

I wish my crappy monitor at work would let me see this burst...can't hardly tell it's there, and the color is odd. But that's my monitor....everything is greenish, and reds have no life. I'm sure it's better than I can see... |

Thanks some mo guys. I have to give Tony all the credit. He executed the burst exactly to specs. Only better. Serge you can surely call me John, just not outdoor john, heh heh. ( no one is privey to that. ![]() Bro that is that spalted maple back pressed into another role. I never could find a set of sides to match it and had two requests for spalted maple rosettes. So there is part of that back. I'll post the other part when its finished. |
